RAID - The Gambia collaborated with Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids to advocate for the implementation of a minimum of 75% Graphic Health Warning (GHW) coverage on tobacco packaging within the country. This partnership represented a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance public awareness about the dangers of tobacco use and promote tobacco control measures in The Gambia. Through strategic advocacy campaigns, awareness-raising initiatives, and stakeholder engagement, RAID and Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids worked tirelessly to garner support for the implementation of robust Graphic Health Warnings on tobacco packs. Recognizing the compelling evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of GHWs in conveying the health risks associated with tobacco consumption, RAID and its partners advocated for impactful warning labels that would resonate with consumers and deter tobacco use. The collaborative advocacy efforts yielded tangible results, as The Gambia successfully implemented Graphic Health Warnings covering at least 75% of tobacco packaging. This achievement underscored the commitment of RAID, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, and other stakeholders to prioritize public health and protect citizens from the harmful effects of tobacco addiction. In addition to advocating for Graphic Health Warnings, RAID and its partners conducted sensitization campaigns on the Comprehensive Tobacco Control Act in three regions of The Gambia. These awareness-raising initiatives aimed to educate communities about the provisions of the comprehensive legislation, empower individuals to enforce their rights to a smoke-free environment, and foster grassroots support for tobacco control initiatives. The collaborative efforts between RAID and Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids exemplify the power of partnership and collective action in advancing tobacco control objectives. By working together to advocate for stronger regulations and raise public awareness, RAID and its partners are driving meaningful progress towards reducing tobacco use and protecting the health and well-being of all Gambians.
