RAID - The Gambia assumed a pivotal role in the development of the national Tobacco Control Policy, marking a significant milestone in the country's efforts to combat the tobacco epidemic. Recognizing the urgent need for a comprehensive policy framework to address the multifaceted challenges posed by tobacco use, RAID spearheaded collaborative efforts to formulate evidence-based strategies and interventions aimed at reducing tobacco-related harm and promoting public health. RAID's involvement in the development of the national Tobacco Control Policy was characterized by strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy initiatives. Leveraging its expertise in tobacco control advocacy and its partnerships with governmental agencies, civil society organizations, and public health experts, RAID facilitated a participatory process to draft and refine the policy document. Throughout the policy development process, RAID prioritized evidence-based approaches and best practices in tobacco control, drawing upon global standards and recommendations outlined by the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). RAID's leadership in the development of the Tobacco Control Policy underscored its commitment to advancing public health agendas and promoting policy reforms that prioritize tobacco control as a national health priority. By fostering collaboration and consensus-building among stakeholders, RAID facilitated the adoption of a comprehensive policy framework that encompasses key domains of tobacco control, including prevention, cessation, enforcement, and surveillance.
