RAID-THE GAMBIA, in collaboration with Student for Sensible Drug Policy GAMBIA CHAPTER, and West Africa Drug Policy Network (WADPN) jointly organized a two-day multi-sectorial stakeholder dialogue. The forum was attended by senior members of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, civil society organizations, media, and members of the Gambia National Assembly, including the chairman of National Assembly human rights committee. The aim of the forum was to review the current drug control policy in the Gambia and discuss the current trend of illegal drug trade and its impact on Gambians, especially the youth. The stakeholders proposed realistic alternative policy ideas for the government's consideration. As the Gambia government continues to review the Drug Control Act 2003 to address the country's drug problem, both in demand reduction and supply, we hope that the new law will be a progressive drug law that is centered on a more balanced approach to drug supply and demand reduction.
